Nigerian entertainment Journalist, Joey Akan is of the opinion that Nigerian music history and success were built on cyber crime.

In a tweet shared on his page on March 24, the podcaster implied that yahoo boys (online fraudsters) are major investors in the music industry.

He added that due to their funds, the industry has stayed alive with no institutional or corporate funding

“Afrobeats Hall of Fame will never be complete without honourary mentions to Yahoo boys who funded and kept alive an industry with no institutional or corporate funding,” he wrote.

It’s a reality we hate to admit, but huge parts of Nigerian music history and success were built on cybercrime. https://t.co/3jmmAtEGED / Twitter”
