US based Nigerian filmmaker Nnamdi Kanaga’s The Hail Mary scores yet another win as its distribution rights have been acquired by US film distribution company 1091 pictures.
The film which features an all-black cast enjoyed an overly impressive festival outing bagging several awards including the Best Narrative at the South Dakota Film Festival and the Audience Choice Awards at the African International Film Festival.
The Hail Mary tells the story of War Veteran Darius (Ozzie Jones) who moves to Montana in a bid to repair his relationship with his grown son Terrell (Sean Michael Harrison). On a day significant to them, they confront their differences.
“When I set out to make this film three years ago, my creativity and vision was questioned. ‘How will you be able to make a film about black people in Montana,’ some asked. I am so thankful to have defied all odds. Who would have thought that a Nigerian will be making history in a place like Montana?” Kanaga revealed on surmounting the odds and making the film.
Written and directed by Kanaga, the film features Ozzie Jones, Sean Michael Harrison, Tinesha Ersland, Jaidian Donovan Arruda, Rachel Missie with Israel McKinney Scott and Jennings Barmore producing.
The Hail Mary is available for rent or purchase on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, iTunes, Microsoft and Google Play. It can also be streamed for free on Roku channel in the US and Canada.
