Batgirl will not be released in either cinemas or HBO Max. The movie will never see the light of day. Warner Bros. recently made the shocking revelation about the DC comics movie starring Leslie Grace.
“The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future,” a Warner Bros. Picture Spokesperson said.
Batgirl was budgeted at around $80 million, but the costs rose to nearly $90 million due to COVID-19 protocols. The movie also struggled to find a release base; at one point it was slated for the theatres but later settled for an HBO Max debut. Ultimately, the movie has now become the latest casualty in the new leadership at Warner Bros. following the merger with Discovery.
Filming on Batgirl ended a few months ago and the movie was entering the final stages of post-production. To decide to keep the movie away from viewers altogether points to some overwhelming problems with the movie.
Report has it that Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to elevate all DC Film titles to become excusive theatrical events and Batgirl just didn’t fit that bill. It wasn’t scripted or produced as a theatrical film.
Also cancelled is animated feature Scoob!: Holiday Haunt which had a budget in the $40 million range.
