Sex sells. At least almost everyone (finally) agrees with this. A sex scene in a movie, when done well, advances the plot, which is a good thing for the story being told and for the audience at home who gets off via such gratuitous view.
Because in real life, Nigerians obviously have sex, even though her people would rather pretend to be averse to the topic, the subject has been a mainstay in movies and has only gotten bolder as the times go by.
In no particular order, here are ten (10) movies in Nollywood history with some of the best sex scenes around.
ANIKULAPO (2022)
Kunle Afolayan is making the best of his current deal with Netflix. The streaming service allows the talented filmmaker to infuse more nudity in his movies than, ordinarily, wouldn’t have been permissible had the released only in theatres. In this particular scene, Saro (Kunle Remi) and Arolake (Bimbo Ademoye) get really intimate and reveal sensual body parts to the divisive delight of fans around the world.
LA FEMME ANJOLA (2021)
Rita Dominic is a star, and everything she touches turns into gold. So, when a creatively shot sex scene featuring her character Anjola and Nonso Bassey’s Dejare started to play out on screen, the rest of the world stood still in respect and excitement. Big chops to director Mildred Okwo for the way the scene was handled.
FIFTY (2015)
Everything about the raunchy scenes in this movie is bold and audacious. Iretiola and Emmanuel Ikubese looked believable as an age-awkward couple so into each for the times and sexual gratification it brings. Ikubese bears it all with a full backside display; a momentary shot that still remains undefeated to this day in its category.
THE VISIT (2015)
Starring Blossom Chukwujekwu and Nse Ikpe-Etim in the lead roles, the 18+ scenes in this movie got some tongues wagging upon its release.

Reissued in Nollywood as Forbidden Fruit, this is a 2009 Ghanaian-Nigerian thriller film starring Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Prince David Osei, and Yvonne Nelson. It received five nominations at the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards, but it is mostly remembered for its steamy sex scenes some critics went on to describe as “overdone”
GLAMOUR GIRLS (1994)
Another trip down memory lane that really, really blew the minds of Nigerians upon its release is Glamour Girls. The scene in question saw characters played by Zach Orji and Eucharia Anunobi in a bubble bath being frisky with each other. Now that a reboot is on the way, expect resurrected conversations around this infamous scene.
LIVING IN BONDAGE: BREAKING FREE (2019)
Living in Bondage: Breaking Free is the most recent movie on this list, so there’s a higher chance you remember it firsthand than most of the others. In the scene in question, Nnamdi (JKA Swanky) and Kelly (Munachi Abii) make passionate love in a silhouette cover, that left viewers wanting more.
HALF OF A YELLOW SUN (2013)
Hollywood big wigs Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton both starred in this big-budget production adapted from the bestselling novel of the same title by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. When it came to their characters getting naughty on camera, they didn’t shy away from delivering.
MERRY MEN (2018)
The Merry Men movies supported the chatter that Yoruba demons in agbada might really be very good, bad guys. In a way, AY Makun’s character, Amaju, lives up to the hype with the way he caresses and manhandles Iretiola Doyle in multiple scenes, whilst in character.
