Nigeria’s very own Orire Nwani has emerged winner in the ‘Best Director’ category at the recently concluded New York Tri State film festival for his short film, Naked Woman.
Orire’s Naked Woman tells the story of single mother, Ufuoma. A woman who after facing several difficulties in life grows bitter and scared about her daughter making similar mistakes as she did.
Eduardo Rivera, director of the festival congratulated the fast rising filmmaker on landing the coveted prize in a stament; “Again, congrats for the award and for being great at what you do. We have surely loved your work, and I’m sure others feel the same.”
The short film which explores the trauma of unwanted pregnancies and single motherhood also premiered at the Smithsonian National Museum for Africa Art DC and is also set to screen at the 11th edition of the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF).
Naked Woman stars Ejovwoke Obas and Roberta Orioma who also co-wrote the film. Josh Olaoluwa produced the film for Conceptified Media and Adeniyi Joseph Omobulejo photographed it. Vincho Nchogu is also credited as Creative Producer.
Naked Woman is currently streaming on YouTube with over 40k views since its premiere in July.
