Disney+ on Wednesday unveiled the trailer for Pinocchio as the beloved 1940s classic joins the line of Disney animated films to get a live-action remake.
Directed by Academy Award winning film maker Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forest Gump, Who framed Roger Rabbit), Pinocchio faithfully reiterates the classic story of how the wooden puppet is brought to life by a blue fairy and seeks the life and adventures of a real boy.
Tom Hanks plays the role of kindhearted toymaker Geppetto, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor) and Joseph Gordon Levitt (Looper) provides the voice of Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket respectively. Cynthia Erivo (Hariet) plays The Blue Fairy, Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) plays The Coachman and Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas) voices Sofia the Seagull, a new character invented for the remake.
The teaser trailer released on May 31 cuts off just before Pinocchio was brought to life but in the new trailer, we get to see the wooden puppet-turned-boy strutting around feeling as alive as ever.
The film slated for a September 8 release on Disney+ is the first of two Pinocchio films to be released in 2022 as yet another legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will also be retelling the 1940s classic in a more traditional animation for Netfilx come December.
