Prince Harry may no longer be a working member of the British royal family, but that doesn’t mean he’s stopped working. In fact, the Duke of Sussex just landed a fancy new role: Chief Impact Officer at tech start-up BetterUp. The Silicon Valley company is a “fast-growing coaching and mental health company” according to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the news.
“I intend to help create impact in people’s lives,” Prince Harry wrote in an email to WSJ about taking the position. “Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-round better life.” His role will include contributing to the company’s strategy and charitable endeavours, as all as public-facing mental wellness advocacy, according to WSJ.
The BetterUp website touts a product that “develops and supports high-performing people, cultures, and businesses through personal coaching, improving leadership skills, and building inclusive workforces.” Harry is now listed as a member of its leadership team and “a humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist.”
Harry has attempted to break down taboos around mental health over the last couple of years, and he has spoken about his own mental health on several occasions. He said he personally found working with a BetterUp coach to be “invaluable,” adding that the coach gave him “sound advice” and “a fresh perspective.”
