Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie are set to reunite in a commissioned reboot of Ocean’s Eleven.
Ocean’s Eleven, originally inspired by the 1960 film of the same name which featured the Rat Pack, an informal group of entertainers spawned a successful trilogy released between 2001 and 2007, which featured some of Hollywood’s biggest names including the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and Andy Garcia amongst several others. In 2018, nine years after the conclusion of the original trilogy, Warner Bros released Ocean’s 8, a reboot of the franchise featuring an all-female cast with Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett in leading roles. The announcement of the development of the prequel film set in 1960s Europe with Margot Robbie set to feature came after several years of uncertainty about the franchise’s future with many expecting a direct sequel for 2018’s Ocean’s 8.
Puck News reports that Ryan Gosling who is set to appear in the 2023 film Barbie as Ken Doll alongside Margot Robbie’s Barbie is expected to feature in the prequel film expected to have a bigger budget than the original counterpart marking their second feature film together. Earlier this year Ryan appeared in Netflix’s The Gray Man where he plays the role of skillful assassin Six. The big-budget action film directed by brother duo Anthony and Joe Russo already has a sequel and a spin-off film in the works. He is also set to star in David Leitch’s The Fall Guy.
Jay Roach, director of Bombshell and Meet the Fockers will be overseeing the prequel’s direction with Carrie Solomon set to write the film’s script and Robbie also expected to produce. This would be Roach and Robbie’s second film together after 2017’s Bombshell.
No release date has been set for the Ocean’s Eleven reboot yet.
