Global media identification platform Shazam has unveiled a list of musicians with potential to have an outstanding 2022, and Nigeria’s Mavin Records singing sensation Ayra Star has been included in the quintuple list.

Accompanying Shazam’s 2022 spotlight was an excerpt which read, “Ayra Starr’s rise this year was largely mounted on her breakout track “Bloody Samaritan,” which had its first Shazam in Lagos. It was released as the lead single of the Nigerian singer-songwriter’s debut album 19 & Dangerous, but took on a life of its own as listeners were drawn in by an alluring violin melody that drops into contagious Afropop magic.

“An undeniable jam, “Bloody Samaritan” was the most Shazamed song by a local female artist in Nigeria this year—an impressive accomplishment considering it came out only in July.”

Four other artists- Danny Lux, Lyn Lapid, Sad Night Dynamite, and StayC complete Shazam’s spotlight. Last year, Shazam spotlighted Australian Hip-Hop artist Masked Wolf among its five artists to watch. A year later, his track Astronaut In The Ocean; has been Shazamed over 11million times, becoming the world’s most-Shazamed song of 2021 after going viral on social media. The sleeper hit spent over 200 consecutive days in Shazam’s Global Top 20- a new record for a Hip-Hop/Rap track- and was this year’s most-Shazamed song in 12 countries, from Egypt to Belarus, Israel, Tunisia and the UAE.

Indeed, after Star’s exploits in 2021, she may well continue to rise, releasing even more impressive projects.
