It’s been almost three months since we first heard that a plan for a reboot of the 2003 Nigerian comedy drama Aki na Ukwa has been set in motion. In that regard, Play Network Studios has announced they will collaborate with FilmOne Entertainment to remake the cult comedy classic.

Aki na Ukwa starred now veteran actors Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, earning them a reputation as some of the best comical Nigerian actors to grace Nigerian film and TV.
Based on a story by Stephen Oluboyo and Ozioma Ogbaji (Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards), the reboot follows the story of two mischievous brothers who try to make a life for themselves and suddenly find themselves having to deal with unprecedent fame and wealth through social media. Things take a quick turn as they are caught in an entirely different world of pleasures, pressures, lies, deceit and enmity.
According to earlier teases, the reboot will be titled ‘Aki and Pawpaw’ and will release in December 17, 2021. Reports have also suggested that the movie will be directed by Biodun Stephen (Breaded Life and Progressive Tailors Club).
Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme will reprise their roles as Aki and Pawpaw from the original film, with Toyin Abraham, Anita Asuoha (Real Warri Pikin), Uti Nwachukwu, Stan Nze, MC Lively, Beverly Osu, Juliet Ibrahim and Chioma Okafor also rumoured as part of the cast.
