South African rapper, singer and songwriter Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known professionally as AKA, has been reportedly shot dead in Durban. AKA was aged 35.
According to multiple reports, the ‘Victory Lap’ singer was killed in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road late on Friday, February 10, 2023.
Robert Netshiunda, a police spokesman, confirmed to News24 that a “well-known rapper” was shot just after 10 pm.
“I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper. Police will not be releasing any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed,” said Netshiunda.
The crime area has been heavily restricted while further investigations continue.
Speaking to TimesLIVE, ALS paramedic Garrith Jamieson said they met total chaos on arriving the scene and that one of the victims sustained multiple gunshots and was pronounced dead on the spot while another was fatally wounded.
“On arrival, paramedics met total chaos and a scene where two men, believed to be in their late 30s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics assisted the men and unfortunately, the first male had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene.”

AKA’s family has put up a social media post confirming his death.
It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son, and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023. We are awaiting further details from the Durban Police.
To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, most importantly father to his beloved daughter Kairo. To many he was AKA, SUPAMEGA, BHOVA and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by. Our son was loved and he gave love in return. In this time of grief we appeal for your compassion, space and time to congregate as family to decide on the upcoming days.
We thank you for the love and support we have received thus far, and ask you continue to keep us in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord.
