The sequel to 2018’s The Nun has finally begun its ascent almost five years after the release of the original film as a new lead actor has been cast in the horror sequel.
Following the release of The Conjuring 2, a spin off focusing on the terrifying demonic nun ‘Valek’ was announced and subsequently released in 2018 as a prequel to the The Conjuring series. It featured American Horror Story veteran Tassia Farmiga as a young novitiate who together with troubled priest (Demian Bichir) investigates the Romanian convent in the 1950s to discover the demonic nun played by Bonnie Aarons. The Nun made over $300 million at the box office becoming the franchises most successful film till date.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, set to join Tassia Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons in The Nun 2 in the lead role is fast rising 19-year-old actress Storm Reid. Reid made her acting debut in 2013 Oscar award winning drama 12 Years A Slave. Since then, she has gone on to star in movies like Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, The Invisible Man, HBO’s Euphoria amongst several others. Her role as well as the plot of the film is still very much under wraps at this point but THR reports it be set in 1950s.
The long-awaited sequel is slated for a September 2023 release with filming set to begin in October.
