In case you missed it, Marvel released the second official trailer for their highly anticipated superhero movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. The last piece of the puzzle in the latest Spider-Man trilogy is the 27th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The first trailer for the movie initially leaked online before Marvel eventually released it via their official social media accounts. It confirmed rumours that several multi-universal Spider-Man villains were coming to the present day MCU after Dr Stephen Strange helped Peter (Spider-Man) cast a spell to reverse his identity as Spider-Man and ended up blowing the multiverse open. However, this new trailer takes fans on a deeper-dive into what to expect from the Jon Watts directed movie.
Firstly, as fans initially thought, although the likes of Dr Octopus, Sandman, Electro, Green Goblin, and even Lizard have now crossed path in one timeline, there’s little to suggest they’re Spider-Man’s ultimate enemies in ‘No Way Home.’ In a certain part of the trailer, Peter and his friends could be seen having a laugh at Dr Octopus’ name, whereas Dr Octopus actually recognises that that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is not the one he used to know.
After Spider-Man has been declared America’s number one public enemy for killing Mysterio in ‘Far From Home,’ when of course he didn’t, Spidey’s struggle in ‘No Way Home’ may well be to vindicate himself by trying to save everyone including his visiting Spider-Man villains from different timelines.
All those villains have met their deaths in the past, many of them at the hands of their universe’s Spiderman, but Peter wants to give them another chance, and tries to prevent Dr Strange from making sure time events follow a natural course. Strange’s ultimate mission is, of course, to protect every fragment of time and will stop at nothing to see to it, hence him and Peter engage in a long chase across and beyond New York city.
There’s also tribute to late Steve Rogers, Captain America, as we spot his shield buried atop the Statue of Liberty.
In addition, several Easter eggs suggest more characters from different timelines may collide in ‘No Way Home.’ That may even include the likes of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from the first Spiderman trilogy and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man from The Amazing Spider-Man .
