The winners of the 2023 Oscars were revealed in the early hours of Monday, March 13. The event was held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre as stars aligned for the biggest award ceremony in entertainment.
Going into the night, Tems and Rihanna looked like strong favourites to win the Best Original Song category after being for their work on ‘Lift Me Up’ from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie, (song also features director Ryan Coogler and Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson).
however, they lost to ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the movie RRR (Music by M.M. Keeravaani; Lyric by Chandrabose) in what was one of the shockers of the night. It would have been Tems’s and Rihanna’s first Academy Award but instead, they have to try again.
We had predicted their fiercest competition to be America’s sweetheart, Lady Gaga. Gaga was nominated alongside Bloodpop for their work on ‘Hold My Hand’, which is featured in the movie Top Gun: Maverick and “This Is a Life” from the spectacular Everything Everywhere All at Once (Music by Ryan Lott, David Byrne and Mitski; Lyric by Ryan Lott and David Byrne).
In another big highlight from the 95th Academy Awards, Everything Everywhere All at Once won 7 awards, the most on the night, including major categories Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, etc.
