A group of friends who heard out to a cabin in the woods for some alone time sounds very familiar. It’s a tried and tested subgenre. But The Blackening brings up a twist – it transforms the concept into a satire.
The Blackening follows a group of Black friends on a getaway in celebration of Juneteenth. But when they find themselves trapped with a killer, a lot of comedy and gore ensue.
The movie stars Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Antoinette Robertson, and Sinqua Walls, with Jay Pharoah and Yvonne Orji, to mention but a few.
The Blackening hits cinemas in June 16, 2023.
