The Griot Set For Nov. 18 Netflix Debut

Degzy Film Productions is set to continue what has been dubbed by many as “the season of period dramas” with the global release of its latest title, The Griot, this November on Netflix.

Set in the beautiful small town of Wasinmi, Abeokuta, The Griot follows Lakunle, a young man who desires the love of Tiwa, the fairest maiden in the land. He seeks the assistance of Samni, his long time friend in winning Tiwa’s heart but Sanmi selfishly tries to get Tiwa for himself.

The Griot promises a drama embroiled deeply in Africa folklore with visuals and music celebrating Nigerian culture to the fullest.

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and produced by Goodness Emmanuel, the film features acting talents from Lateef Adedimeji, Funsho Adeolu, Kunle Afod, Yewande Adekoya Abiodun, Officer Woos, Goodness Emmanuel, Temiloluwa Fosudo and many more.

In an interview with, director Adeoluwa Owu, commonly known as Captain Degzy, disclosed that the multiple award winning film will be heading straight to Netflix as opposed to theatres nationwide. According to him, the decision was based off the tremendous traction it gained at the international film festival.

With the high demand for historical and period dramas in recent times, it’ll be interesting to see how well The Griot fares along side the likes of Anikulapo and Elesin Oba.
