Fast-rising NIgerian singer and Spotify RADAR Africa alumnus, Victony will release the first-ever Spotify Single from Nigeria, a cover of Davido’s “Dami Duro,” the streaming platform has announced.
The cover, available exclusively on Spotify, is a classic-disco-inspired take on the classic decade-old club banger by Davido.
“Dami Duro” was Davido’s breakout smash hit, released in 2012 on his debut album, “Omo Baba Olowo.” The song is well-known by just about every Afrobeats fan and is a staple of the exuberant genre.
Speaking about the importance of the song, Victony had this to say:
“Dami Duro is a really beautiful song by Davido. My favorite part of the track is the hook. It’s very audacious, it’s so powerful. I really, really love that. With the Spotify Singles version, we wanted to do something really different to make it more of a classic and give it this disco feel – I’d say ‘Grandpa Ebelebe’ style.”
The Spotify Singles program was created in 2016 to provide artists with the opportunity to re-record one of their existing songs in a fresh new way, as well as cover a song of their choice by one of their own musical heroes. It’s been an outlet for artists to express themselves, engage their fans with new content, and connect with new listeners.
