Omah Lay has released a hypnotic music video for his equally hypnotic tune Soso, the 11th track on his 37-minutes-long 2022 debut album, Boy Alone. The video is directed by Canadian-based Bronx videographer, Kieran Khan, known popularly as Topshotta.
Khan’s super-sharp eyes for camera angles, and prior successes in the dancehall scene would have made the collaboration a no-brainer for Omah Lay, and as often, the New Yorker delivered.
The video for Soso features rich photography of African art, still life, and dancers clad in all black whose moves adorn the drums and whistling of the polyrhythmic Soso.
Soso is a sobriquet of a girl-name accustomed to parts of Southern Nigeria, where Lay hails from. In the video, only Soso can free Lay from a certain pain-induced hypnosis that is palpable throughout the 3-mins-4-secs-long clip. Watch the video below.
