Weekend Watchlist: Bitter Rain, Kissing Booth 3, and Don’t Breathe 2 Make Their Debuts

August is packed with lots of brilliant film and TV content, and Media Rants is here to make sure you don’t miss out on a lot.

It’s been a great month for moviegoers and TV lovers, and it’s not just Hollywood that’s making August pop, there’s been some terrific Nigerian releases since the start of August, while Kemi Adetigba’s King of Boys 2 which arrives towards the end of the month may yet be the Nigerian film and TV content of the year.

1. Bitter Rain (Theatres)

Synopsis: Bitter Rain is set in the fictitious town of Ahaba, bitter rain is an upcoming Nigerian movie that follows the story of a troubled king who will stop at nothing to ensure he averts his 40th bitter rain.

Cast: Mike Ezuronye, Ayo Myorkun, Alex Ekubo, Erika Nlewedim, Stan Nze, Efe Irele, George Nanakwesi Chux, and Patrick Onyeocha.

2. Titans Season 3 (HBO Max)

Synopsis: Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find where they belong. In season three, circumstances draw the heroes to Gotham City, where they will reunite with old friends and attempt to conquer new threats.

3. Star Girl Season 2 (CW)

Synopsis: High school student Courtney Whitmore inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past.

4. Respect (Theatres) (US)

Synopsis: Respect is a biopic of the legendary American ‘Soul’ queen Aretha Franklin. Aretha started off singing in her father’s church choir as a child and grew up to become an international musical superstar and legend.

Cast: Jennifer Hudson, Marlon Wayans, Mary J. Blige, et al.

5. Free Guy (Theatres) (Worldwide)

Synopsis: A bank teller called Guy realises he is a background character in an open world video game called Free City that will soon go offline. Guy faces a race against time to save his world amid the video game runners shutting the project down.

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, et al.

6. Kissing Booth 3 (Netflix)

Netflix returns with the third and final film in the Kissing Booth franchise. Elle and her friends are set to graduate high school, they potentially face a last summer together, and must make difficult choices about college, career, love, and friendships they want to carryover to this brand new phase.

Cast: Joey King, Jacob Elordi, et al.

7. Don’t Breathe 2 (Theatres) (US)

Stephen Lang is Norman Nordstorm once again, a blind war veteran who would go any length to survive and make sure justice is served, even if it means taking laws into is own hands.

8. What If? (Disney+)

Synopsis: What If? is a Marvel orginal animation series that explores several pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turns them on their head, leading the audience into an uncharted territory.

Cast: Chadwick Boseman, Jefferey Wright, Hayley Atwell, et al.

9. Beckett (Netflix)

Synopsis: John David Washington stars as titular character Beckett in this fast paced crime thriller about an American tourist who finds himself at the centre of a dangerous political conspiracy and on the run for his life after a motor accident in Greece.

Cast: John David Washington, Boyd Holbrook, Vicky Krieps, et al.
