There are many big local and international films making their entry into streamers and theatres this weekend. Just as we’ve been repatriating since the beginning of the month, December is packed with potentially exciting new film and TV content to enjoy along with the festivities.

Including Marvel’s latest blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home and the long anticipated Aki na Ukwa sequel titled Aki and Pawpaw, here are the best movies to binge watch this weekend and information on how and where you can watch them.

Rumble (Family Animation)

Why You Should Watch Rumble:

Rumble is one of Paramount Picture’s family feature entry for Christmas, and the cast is packed with lots of exciting actors including Everybody Hates Chris star Terry crews, thus it is full of promise.

In a world where monster wrestling is a global sport and monsters are superstar athletes, teenage Winnie seeks to follow in her father’s footsteps by coaching a lovable underdog monster into a champion.

Minamata (Drama, Adaptation)

Why You Should Watch Minamata:

Renowned actor Johnny Depp (Pirates of The Caribbean) is back acting after his involvement in a messy divorce from actress Amber Heard saw him miss out on a couple of big roles.

This is actually the story of war photographer Eugene Smith and how he goes up against a powerful corporation responsible for poisoning the people of Minamata, a Japanese fishing village, in 1971.

Aki and Pawpaw

Why You Should Watch Aki and Pawpaw:

Based on a story by Stephen Oluboyo and Ozioma Ogbaji (Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards), Aki and Pawpaw is a sequel to the classic Nollywood comedy Aki na Ukwa, which starred veteran Nollywood actors Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) and Osita Iheme (Pawpaw). When news first broke of the movie’s production, many had thought of it as a reboot but, according to the trailer, it’s a continuation of the old film, and Nollywood’s most mischievous duo are back in town.

Why You Should Watch Nightmare Alley:

Firstly, if Guilermo Del Toro only makes classic movies. In this star studded film, an ambitious young carny (Bradley Cooper) with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who is even more dangerous than he is.

The carnival cast includes carnival worker Molly (Rooney Mara), head barker Clem (Willem Dafoe), and Ron Perlman as Bruno the Strongman. Richard Jenkins is part of the high society crowd as wealthy industrialist Ezra Grindle.

The Witcher Season 2 (Adventure, Fantasy Series)

The Witcher Season 1 was Netflix’s most streamed series before regency drama Bridgerton took it’s place. Starring British actor Henry Cavil, The Witcher is back, and together with his allies they must save humanity from a fast rising dark terror.
