It’s the last weekend of October 2021 and as you know, our weekend watchlist is totally focussed on bringing you recommendations of the very best brand-new film and TV shows to get your weekend going. It’s always great to escape from the hustle and bustle of the weekdays, and what cooler way is there to do it than enjoy a really nice movie or TV show alone or with family and friends!

Films

Army of Thieves

Where to watch: Netflix

In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) is recruited into a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals in order to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe. It is probably the most anticipated movie of the weekend, with Snyder’s non-chronological first film wetting the ground for its arrival.

Progressive Tailors Club

Where to watch: Cinemas (Nigeria)

Members of the Progressive Tailor’s Club gather for a meeting to elect their new leader. However, when a longstanding, trusted executive is eliminated for corruption, it comes down to a choice between the old, the new and the ridiculous.

Last Night in Soho

Where to watch: Cinemas (US)

Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller about a young girl, passionate in fashion design, who is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences. Unfortunately, our readers in Nigeria will have to wait until November 12 before they can see “Last Night in Soho.”

Hypnotic

A young woman (Kate Siegel) seeking self-improvement enlists the help of a renowned hypnotist (Jason O’Mara) but, after a handful of intense sessions, discovers unexpected and deadly consequences.

TV Shows

Swagger Season 1 (Apple TV+)

Basketball players and their families and coaches get swept up into the youth-sports economy, walking a fine line between dreams and ambition, opportunism and corruption.

Star Trek: Prodigy (Paramount Plus)

A motley crew of young aliens in the Delta Quadrant find an abandoned Starfleet ship, the U.S.S. Protostar; taking control of the ship, they must learn to work together as they make their way towards the Alpha Quadrant.
