Nigerian actor Jim Iyke developed a reputation in the early 2000’s and 2010’s as the number one Nollywood bad boy. But the actor did not only leave that mark with the roles he played in movies, he carried on with it off set, often being the subject of several controversies. You could describe Young Jim Iyke in many ways including an acting hot shot, but a person with a cold temper or one to shy away from trouble would never be one of them
In a recent chat with British media Sunday Scoop, Jim Iyke, now 49, and a father, revealed this bad reputation was because he was not empowered to handle fame as at that time.
“At first, don’t forget we were not schooled about what to expect as regards being famous and handling fame. We did not understand what it meant. We did a little bit too much that earned us a bad reputation,” he said.
“I could not conduct myself with the best decorum in those days. As one gets older, one understands oneself, one’s pattern, the people around one, and the responsibility that has been entrusted unto one. It is no small gift to influence people. One owes the world a certain responsibility whether one likes it or not.”
“We refused our responsibility along the way but once one embraces it, things would become easy. That is what I do these days. It is about my businesses, family, and mental health.”
“At some point, I understood it. It is simple arithmetic— one is out there and the focus is on one. [The best thing is to] find somebody there is no focus on but meets one’s intellectual, physical and spiritual values, said Jim Iyke.”
Adamant he has now figured out how to better conduct himself, he revealed he is now in a relationship with an introverted conservative who is also intelligent. Sounds like that’s his absolute opposite, except for the intelligent part of course.
We’d soon know if this recent reveal of learned humility means the 49-year-old can now ignore people who attempt to ridicule him on social media, or maybe that part Jim Iyke is never dying.
