Organisers of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards unveiled the full list of nominees of the the 2022 edition of the annual awards on June 1, with Wizkid landing a nomination in two topmost categories. In addition to Wiz’s nomination for Best Collaboration (‘Essence’ ft. Tems and Justin Bieber) he was also nominated for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.
It’s a groundbreaking achievement for the sensational Nigerian Pop-star as we near the release of his upcoming fifth solo album More Love Less Ego.
Tems and Fireboy DML will also fly Nigeria’s flag at the 2022 BET Awards alongside Wizkid. Tems who bagged 3 nominations will compete with Fireboy DML alongside 7 other international acts in the Best International Act Category.

Wizkid has enjoyed a remarkable run of success since 2020, following the release of Made in Lagos, his fourth solo album. The groundbreaking project has not only earned Wizkid numerous accolades, but also endeared many international spectators to Afrrican music and Afrobeats. That has surely reflected in the growing number of African acts, Nigerians especially getting recognized by international music bodies.
Unlike the 2022 Grammys where he narrowly missed out on his first award for an original work, Wiz will be hoping to bring home the trophy this time.
American singer, rapper and songwriter Doja Cat is the most nominated artist this year with 6. Other nominated acts include Ari Lennox, Ari Lennox, Drake, Baby Keem, Silk Sonic, and many more.
